Andritz to supply high-speed spunlace line to Welspun in India

International technology group Andritz has received an order from Welspun Advanced Materials, India, to deliver a complete neXline spunlace line for the production of nonwoven roll goods and wipes for their new plant in Hyderabad, Telangana. The line has a capacity of up to three tons per hour. Start-up of the line is scheduled for Q4FY21.

American researchers develop new biosensor technology

Chemical engineer Huanan Zhang from the University of Utah has developed a process that turns clothing fabric into biosensors which measure a muscle’s electrical activity as it is worn. Zhang and his team have devised a method of taking ordinary textile and turning the fabric into sensors that measure electrical impulses generated from muscle movement.

Japan’s Toray to increase prices of automotive airbag yarn and fabrics

Japan’s Toray has increased nylon 66 yarns and derivative fabrics price, for automotive airbag application, by around 20 per cent effectively from December 1, 2021, shipments. Significant shortages of nylon 66 precursor adiponitrile, since 2018, has caused price escalation for nylon66 polymer, a principal material in automotive airbag yarns and fabrics.

Sweden’s Autoliv & Piaggio to develop an airbag for two-wheelers

Autoliv, a Swedish leader in automotive safety systems, and Piaggio, a manufacturer of scooters and motorcycles, are set to develop an airbag for powered two-wheelers, for greater rider safety. A joint development agreement was signed for the purpose of developing airbags to provide greater protection for two-wheeler riders and enhance riding pleasure.

UK’s Fibre Extrusion Technology hails INDEX20 impact

India to produce technical fabrics at scale: ACIMIT’s Zucchi

In the coming years, mass production of technical fabrics will come from India, according to Alex Zucchi, president of ACIMIT, the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers. A total of 70 Italian machinery manufacturers participated in INDEX—the reference trade fair for the nonwovens sector—that was recently held in Geneva, Switzerland.
