Chinese brand Anta uses Covestro’s Maezio to upgrade shoe

Anta, a well-known sports brand in China, has used Covestro’s Maezio composite material to upgrade its KT6 basketball shoe. Maezio not only has a low density and high degree of rigidity but also allows for an extensive degree of freedom in design – its mechanical properties can be adjusted by changing the direction and thickness of the sheet lamination.

Fraunhofer IZM sets up new Textile Prototyping Lab

Fraunhofer IZM in Berlin has set up a new Textile Prototyping Lab (TPL) with a view to create creative high-tech textiles. The lab varies from the style of usual research laboratories by its design, and displays patterns, seams and mannequins. In collaboration with Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin, TPL is busy creating textile-integrated electronics.

Ontario govt supports launch of tech to detect early disease warnings

The Ontario state government in Canada is investing over $1.5 million, through the Ontario Together Fund, in Myant Inc. to help commercialise ‘connected wearables’, which can sense, monitor and help detect various symptoms that may signal the onset of diseases, including those associated with COVID-19. The project is expected to create 80 jobs.

US’ Hexion, Rassini work on composite leaf spring in Ford’s new model

Hexion has worked with Rassini for composite leaf spring application in Ford’s new model of the F-150 pickup truck. Rassini has developed the hybrid rear suspension, which comprises a parabolic main steel leaf supported by a composite helper. It has used Hexion’s Epikote epoxy resin system since it enables mass production of the composite helper spring.

France’s ArianeGroup & ESA to make lightweight composites in rockets

ArianeGroup has joined hands with the European Space Agency (ESA) as the lead contractor for the PHOEBUS (Prototype of a Highly OptimizEd Black UpperStage) project. The programme aims to further the development of composite technologies, for the future upper stage of the launch vehicle, Ariane 6. ArianeGroup is a French leader in space launchers.

UK's Diamorph Group Holdings to acquire composites maker Permali

Manchester, UK-based Diamorph Group Holdings Limited has signed a conditional agreement to acquire Permali Gloucester Limited, a Gloucester-based manufacturer of composites, predominately for the defence sector. Diamorph, a manufacturer of proprietary advanced materials, is anticipating completion of the Permali acquisition within the coming months.
