DIFT’s German researchers replace toxic chemicals in tires & belts

Researchers at Germany’s DITF are showing ways to replace the harmful formaldehyde used in the manufacturing of tires and conveyor belts, with technically equivalent substances that are harmless to health. In the established manufacturing process, adhesion promoters made of resorcinol-formaldehyde-latex (RFL) are used to improve the adhesion properties.

US researchers prevent electric malfunction in yarns that store energy

In a new study, researchers from the North Carolina (NC) State University have found a way to prevent electrical malfunctions in yarns designed to store electrical energy. Ultimately, the findings could help advance the development of “smart textiles” that would capture energy from the wearer’s movements and power sensors and wearable electronics.

Belgium’s Ontex opens new excellence centre for process engineering

Ontex, a provider of personal hygiene products, has opened its Global Excellence Centre (GEC) for Process Engineering and Global Platform Innovation. In the presence of Ontex CEO Esther Berrozpe, the centre was opened in Mayen, Germany. US’ IND Hemp & Hempitecture to produce natural hemp fibres

US’ IND Hemp and Hempitecture have signed a supply chain partnership for natural hemp fibres for Hempitecture’s nonwoven Hempwool insulation to be grown, processed and manufactured in the western United States.
