Sri Lanka waives off tax on raw materials for sanitary napkins

The Sri Lankan government recently initiated measures to waive off duties imposed on five imported raw materials for sanitary napkins produced in the country to make hygiene products more affordable for women and school girls, according to the Presidential Media Division. Tax concessions were announced for imported finished sanitary napkins as well.

Japan’s Toray develops fabric using 100% plant-based polyester

Japan-based textile industry company Toray Industries, Inc, has announced that it has developed a new variety of nonwoven material, Ultrasuede nu, which partially consists of 100 per cent plant-based polyester. All Nippon Airways Co, Ltd (ANA), will use the fabric for making the headrest covers of the ANA Green Jet from November this year.

Korea’s Hyosung develops nylon as core material for hydrogen energy

Hyosung TNC has succeeded in developing and using nylon for the liner material of hydrogen vehicle fuel tanks with its own technology, the first of its kind for a Korean company. Hyosung TNC's nylon material is superior to conventional metal and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) liner materials in terms of lightweight, gas barrier, and impact resistance.

South Korea’s Kolon boosts tyre cord fabric plant capacity in Vietnam

Kolon Industries Inc has increased the production capacity of its polyester tyre cord fabric plant in Vietnam by 14 per cent to 19,200 tons of tyre cord fabrics compared with 2018. In 2022, the company’s global sales are anticipated to cross 10 million units. Kolon is presently able to generate 103,200 tons of tyre cord fabric on an annual basis.

US’ H.B. Fuller appoints Celeste Mastin as president & CEO

H.B. Fuller Company has announced that Celeste Mastin, executive vice president and chief operating officer, will succeed Jim Owens as H.B. UK researchers have embedded new low-cost sensors that monitor breathing, heart rate, and ammonia into T-shirts and face masks. Potential applications range from monitoring exercise, sleep, and stress to diagnosing and monitoring disease through breath and vital signs. Just $0.15 produces a metre of thread to integrate over ten sensors into clothing.
