American firm Mativ names new filtration business unit as Gessner

Mativ's filtration business unit has been rebranded as Gessner, offering a wider range of filtration solutions and a diverse product portfolio. Gessner represents trust, integrity, creativity, and innovation in filtration and aims to be a global provider of filtration solutions. Neenah and SWM merged last year to form specialty materials leader Mativ.

UK’s government retains measures on glass fibre imports from China

2nd Feb 2023

The UK government has decided to retain existing measures on imports of continuous glass fibre from China, as recommended by the TRA. This means the UK’s glass fibre industry, predominantly based in Wigan, will continue to be protected from injury caused by dumped and subsidised imports of glass fibre from China for five years, from January 31, 2021.

US’ Braskem to produce carbon negative bio-based polypropylene

Braskem, the largest polyolefins producer in the Americas and global producer of biopolymers on an industrial scale, has announced a project to evaluate an investment in producing carbon negative bio-based polypropylene (PP) in the US. The project would utilise Braskem’s proven, proprietary technology to convert bioethanol into bio-based polypropylene.

US’ Perigee Direct unveils flame-retardant fabric bond tape

US-based Perigee Direct has announced the launch of the Trivantage fabric bonding tape to its online collection, making it available for customers. The tape is specifically designed to weld together fabric panels to create stitch-free seams and works with a range of heat sealable fabrics. The company manufactures and supplies specialty consumables.

Japan’s Asahi Kasei develops recycling technology for carbon fibre

Japan’s Asahi Kasei, a Japanese multinational company, has developed a new technology for recycling carbon fibre plastic compounds together with the National Institute of Technology, Kitakyushu College and Tokyo University of Science. Asahi Kasei is dedicated to sustainability initiatives and is contributing to reaching a carbon neutral society by 2050.

IIT Delhi team develops tech for industrial-scale nanofibre production

A team of researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi’s (IIT-D) SMITA Research Lab has developed a technology for the industrial scale production of nanofibres that is superior to the commercial technologies available. The pilot equipment has been validated in an industrial set-up for producing nanofibres at commercial scale.

US’ Trillium raises $10.6 mn in series A financing round

US’ Trillium has raised a $10.6 million series A financing round. The first closing totalled $5.5 million and was led by Hyosung Advanced Materials. Capricorn Partners and HELM have joined the series A round to bring the total to $10.6 million. The funding builds on the company’s non-dilutive award of $2.5 million from the US Department of Energy.
