The National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) has received additional $13.7 million from the United States Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to extend a programme on composites research. Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed an acoustic fabric which is extremely sensitive to vibrations and can detect impact from microscopic high velocity space particles.
