Prof. Shahid Ahmed is presently Professor in the Department of Economics, Jamia Millia Islamia-A Central University, New Delhi. Prof. Ahmed has a teaching and research experience of 24 years. His present research broadly deals with Macroeconomics, International Trade and Development Issues.


Earlier, Prof. Ahmed has served in the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) with progressively increasing responsibilities as Consultant, Economist, and Senior Economist. During his association with UNCTAD, he has provided technical advice to the Department of Commerce, GOI on different aspects of WTO and bilateral trade negotiations.  He has also served as Head, Department of Economics; Director, Centre for Jawaharlal Nehru Studies and Finance Officer of Jamia Millia Islamia. He has also been a member of highest academic bodies such as University Court, Executive Council (EC), Academic Council (AC), Finance Committee (FC) of Jamia Millia Islamia. Prof. Ahmed has acted as external member of Board of Studies in Economics of various universities including M.D. University, Rohtak; Tripura University, Tripura; AMU, Aligarh; Amity University; Banasthali University, Rajasthan; etc


Prof. Ahmed has published many books in the areas of international trade, investment and development , namely Quantification of Benefits from Economic Cooperation in South Asia published by  Macmillan; Regional and Multilateral Trade in Developing Countries published by Routledge; International Trade in Emerging Economies published by Bloomsbury; Foreign Direct Investment, Trade and Economic Growth: Exploring Challenges and opportunities published by Routledge; Energy, Economy and Sustainable Development by Bloomsbury,  with fellow researchers.


Prof. Ahmed has contributed numerous  research papers on several economic issues, particularly on multilateral trade negotiations, regional economic co-operation, south-south cooperation in reputed national and international journals, namely International Research Journal of Finance and Economics(IRJFE), Economic and Political Weekly (EPW), Korea and the World Economy(KWE), International Journal of Business and Emerging Markets(IJBEM), International Journal of Energy Economics and Policy(IJEEP), International Journal of Economics and Business Research(IJEBR), International Journal of Economics and Financial Issues (IJEFI), Foreign Trade Review (FTR), Innovation and Development, Malaysian Journal of Economic Studies, The Journal of Income and Wealth(JIW), Indian Economic Review(IER), etc among others. Prof. Ahmed has been guiding several research scholars, of which nine has been awarded Ph.D. degree.


Prof. Ahmed has received the “Award of Excellence” for sterling achievements in the professional life and outstanding contribution to the society at large by M.D. University, Rohtak in 2012 and AMP National Award for Excellence in Education by AMP, Mumbai in 2018.
