Filter fabric during the present has seen a substancial demand across the world due to increase in r&d activity and technical awarness continual research activity enables manufacturer for more and more innovative solutions, to create cloths with special weave, to manufacture customized products, in order to satisfy complete demand of outsourcing market wide range of filter fabrics available in natural and synthetic fibres - staple yarn, continuous yarn and monofilament satisfies the requirements of different industries. .According to the sources the demand is going to break the records in coming years. So our paper is deeply going to focus on filter fabric as a main its fabric manufacturing technique, selection criteria ,filtration efficiency, filter performance and its various application in brief.
It is very probable that the word FILTER is derived from the latin FILTRUM which is closely related to feltrum, meaning felt or compressed wool. Today hardly a modern industry exists without some dependence on a filtering operation. Perhaps the first patent on a filter was issued to Joseph Amy by the French Government in 1789 and later on in 1791 came up a British patent describing as filtration by ascent. Since then there have been extensive development in the area of filtration. Textiles are considered as porous medium and by a porous medium and by a porous medium we understand, that material which has in its structure certain number of cavities or empty spaces interconnected or not and can established a direct communication in the boundary of opposed surfaces. Upto the beginning of 1950 textiles used in filtration were uniquely based on woven fabrics of cotton, wool and glass fibers. The development of synthetic fibers in woven and non woven fabric technology substantially modified the use of textiles in filtration.
