Abstract
A geotextile composite liner was placed on the upstreamslope of the clay core between the core and rock-fill shoulder to preventseepage through a rock fill dam at reservoir in China. The paper investigatesthe coupled effects of stress and seepage on the performance of the rock-filldam. Using numerical examples it is demonstrated that the tensile stiffness andtensile strength of the geotextile composite liner modifies the distributionsof stress, strain and displacement in the dam. Different models of thegeotextile composite liner are examined. One model treats the composite lineras a linear elastic element and the second as a contact element which canaccount for relative slippage at the interfaces between the dam core, thecomposite liner and the rock-fill shoulder of the dam.
