Fiber and Filament Extrusion Fundamentals - 2025

The Spunbond Technology Short Course combines classroom learning with hands-on activities in NWI's state-of-the-art fabrication and testing labs to provide attendees a fundamental understanding of the process of forming spunbond webs. The course focuses on the importance of controlling structure-property-process relationships to optimize spunbond materials to meet the requirements of the application. The course will cover model polymers, such as PP, as well as the use of alternative polymers (PET, PLA, PBS, etc.), providing attendees an "algorithm" for running an efficient spunbond process based on polymer properties. Upon completing the course, attendees will have a comprehensive grasp on spunbond nonwoven production processes, including raw material selection, basic science knowledge, testing, and the characterization used to create end-use products. Attendees will also understand the important connection between thermal profiles and extrusion (i.e., min/max temperatures) to optimize the process.
