Gupta said India's technical textile industry is poised for considerable growth and would touch $30 billion over the next five years. She mentioned that medical textiles, geo textiles, protective textiles and agricultural textiles are the growing sectors within the technical textiles industry. She added that technology integration and factors of ease of doing business can further increase growth in this industry.
Technical textile products have used in various industries including automotive, infrastructure, healthcare, oil and petroleum, etc. There is scope for considerable growth of this industry due to growing exports and higher consumption, with increasing investments in the sectors. The consumption of these products by various industries will rise owing to growing awareness about better functionality of technical textiles.
Gupta said the Central government is promoting the growth of technical textiles in the country and for this purpose it is implementing four schemes – technology mission, scheme for strengthening of database and standards for technical textiles, scheme for usage of agri-textiles in north-eastern region, and restructured technology upgradation fund scheme. In addition, the Ministry of Textiles has set up eight Centres of Excellence (CoE) and has also approved setting up of integrated textile parks.
Around 150 companies including 50 Indian companies and foreign contingents from Austria, Belgium, England, Italy, India and the US are participating in the event. These include companies like ATE Enterprises, Batliboi, CHT India, CTF 2000, Deeco Mechatron, Fil man made group Srl, Glanzstoff Industries GmbH, Rabatex Industries, Reliance Industries, etc. With dedicated pavilions, China and Germany are showcasing their competitiveness in technical textiles to the Indian market.
