AIMPLAS to host bioplastics & biocomposites seminar

AIMPLAS (the Institute of Plastics Technology) will hold the latest edition of its International Seminar on Biopolymers and Sustainable Composites in Valencia on March 6th and 7th 2014. Thanks to the success of the four previous editions, the seminar has consolidated its position as a major European event in the field of bioplastics and biocomposites and it will be attended by the leading companies in the sector.

Over 150 people attended the last edition in March 2011. The fifth edition in 2014 has been structured in four main blocks to enable participants to debate and discuss future opportunities and challenges facing the bioplastics and biocomposites sector.

Trends, innovation, case studies and end of life

The event will get underway with an introductory session on bio-materials featuring the participation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Affairs and European Bioplastics, an association that operates at European level.

The following block will outline innovations and emerging trends in biodegradable plastics and/or bio-based plastics. Innovative aspects related to the development of natural fibre reinforced bioplastics will also be discussed.

The next block will look at some case studies in the production of bioplastics and biocomposites and will feature the participation of large companies such as Nestlé and Faurecia. During this third block, the speakers will describe the application of these innovative materials in sectors such as the packaging and automotive industries.

Finally, experts participating at the Seminar will examine the different sustainable end-of-life options for these materials, from separation to industrial recovery.
