Gujarat is emerging as a technical textiles hub in India since it contributes around Rs 200 billion or around 25 percent of the Rs 750 billion overall Indian technical textiles sector.
Considering that the overall technical textiles sector is anticipated to reach Rs 1000 billion in the next fiscal, the share of the Gujarat technical textiles sector is also expected to increase, says the report.
The study reveals that the Indian technical textiles is expected to grow at a sedate 11 percent year on year. The body however called upon the govt to provide more support to the 'Technology Mission on Technical Textiles'.
This thrust would help promote applications in various fields like automotive fabrics, medical textiles, agro textiles, and protective textiles used in firefighting clothing, bulletproof jackets and space suits.
It recommends de-reservation of the small-scale sector in order that units can realize economies of scale.
ASSOCHAM in conjunction with other Gujarat based bodies like Ahmedabad Textile Industry Research Association (ATIRA) has set up a Centre of Business Excellence for training entrepreneurs in setting up textile plants.
