Ahmedabad Textile Industry’s Research Association (ATIRA) is one of the supporting partners of the one-day seminar on ‘Use of Technical Textiles in Water Resources Works’, to be held on April 29, 2019, in New Delhi. The seminar is being organised by the ministry of water resources, river development & Ganga rejuvenation, Government of India.

The seminar will deliberate on several topics including: Standards, Benchmarking & Testing: Adopting Technical Textiles; International Best Practices in Water Resources & Uses of Technical Textiles; Technical Textiles for Water Resources Conservation; Advanced methods in use of Technical Textiles; Applications for Water Resources Protection in - Canal Lining, Embankment Dam, Flirtation/Planar Drainage, Hydraulic Barrier, Surface Reinforcement, Filtration Function, Flood Protection and Bank Erosion, Coastal Erosion, River Bed Application; and Contractual Matters related to Technical Textiles.

High level officials from Central departments, state governments, engineering departments of states working in water resources; academics from various colleges, institutions, and universities; and manufacturers, associations, consultants, and contractors from waste resources and technical textiles domain are expected to participate in the seminar.

For last few decades, technical textiles have provided innovative engineering solutions, in developed as well as many developing countries, for several applications in civil and geotechnical engineering, for infrastructure water resources projects. However, India is yet to capitalise the technical, economic and environmental benefits of technical textiles on a large scale.

In India, various regions are subjected to floods and environmental degradation is the perennial phenomenon. In some of the terrains, the flood management and control can rely on technical textiles tubes, containers and bags. Technical textiles have been found to perform better than concrete as water protection component because of permeability, flexibility and ease of underwater placement. The seminar will highlight various application areas, best practices and mechanisms for encouraging larger usage of technical textiles in water resources sector. Also, it will create a platform for all the concerned stakeholders for brain-storming and creating a roadmap to take the technical textiles uses to the next level. (RKS)
