Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Faruque Hassan recently stressed the importance of capacity building within the garment and textile industry along with policy support to tap technical textiles sector opportunities, including manufacturing personal protective equipment (PPE), surgery gowns and masks.

He was addressing a webinar titled ‘Exploring Growth Opportunities: Production and Export of Medical and Personal Protective Equipment’ organized  by Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD) in collaboration with International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Deloitte.

“Considering the global demand and the rise in demand for PPEs in post-Covid reality, we have a clear potential to tap into it,” Hassan was quoted as saying by Bangla media reports.

“Since PPEs of different grades are required to follow stringent technical and quality compliance, especially the medical-grade ones, we need special preparation to cater to this market. We particularly need to develop special skill sets, technical know-how, and make the right investments in backward linkages,” he added.
