Manufacturer of advanced composites and technologies, Gurit is sponsoring the High Performance Yacht Design Conference to be held in Auckland, New Zealand from March 9 to 11, 2015.
During the Volvo Ocean Race stopover, the world’s top design talent is collecting at the fifth High Performance Yacht Design (HPYD) international conference in Auckland.Manufacturer of advanced composites and technologies, Gurit is sponsoring the High Performance Yacht Design Conference to be held in Auckland,#
The conference will cover all topics relating to high performance power and sailing yachts and will host an international group of scientists, designers and academics.
“Gurit has been associated with HPYD since its inception and is very proud to reinforce its involvement by a gold sponsorship in 2015,” it informed in a statement.
Its connection and history with HPYD has seen a multitude and depth of boating and marine passionate Gurit presenters and contributors as well as participants in the organising committee and technical review panel.
Currently, the company`s New Zealand engineers are members of both, RINA and active yachtsmen.
Gurit’s Auckland-based design engineer, Raphael Gerard will give a presentation on improved fatigue test methods for foam cores.
He will also speak on how to better characterise their long-term behaviour in shell structures subjected to high stress at a large number cycles on March 10, 2015, at 9:30 am.
Its Europe-based Paolo Manganelli, will present the challenges and opportunities when fitting the Volvo Ocean Fleet with a set of load measuring devices on March 10, 2015, at 4.30 pm.
Gurit has worked closely with the Yacht’s builder Green Marine to provide an un-paralleled level of insight into frequency and magnitude of the loads these high performance boats experience when under sail.
The high performance yacht industry was one of the early adaptors of advanced composite construction and was a proving ground for many of the materials, processes and analytical methods used in composite sector today.
The industry requires incredibly light weight and efficient structures that are also exposed to extremely high loads and need to perform on the world’s toughest oceans.
Based on its heritage of more than 35 years of leadership in the marine market, Gurit has successfully transferred this experience into a variety of composite materials, engineering, tooling, parts and systems.
Gurit is the Official Composite Materials Supplier of the Volvo Ocean Race 2014/2015, for the repair and maintenance of the VOR 65 fleet. (AR)
