The QCOs target essential construction materials, including ropes and cordages, which are used for lifting, securing, and transporting goods. Geotextiles, vital for soil stabilisation and erosion control, and indutech textiles, crucial for protective clothing and safety gear, will also be held to higher standards. This move is expected to significantly reduce accidents and injuries, safeguarding the workforce and streamlining construction processes, the Ministry of Textiles said in a press release.
The new standards will come into effect on April 1, 2025, with a grace period of three months for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to comply. Inspections and testing will ensure all manufacturers and suppliers meet these safety requirements.
