The agreements highlight Lummus and Citroniq’s progress in meeting surging demand for sustainable polypropylene.
Romain Lemoine, chief business officer of Polymers and Petrochemicals at Lummus Technology, emphasised the importance of this collaboration with Citroniq. “This agreement showcases our collective progress in establishing North America’s first large-scale sustainable bio-polypropylene production process,” he said. Lemoine highlighted the synergy between Lummus’ expertise in polypropylene licensing and Citroniq’s innovative carbon-negative production capabilities, aiming to satisfy the rising demand for bio-polypropylene and contribute to the decarbonisation of the energy industry.
Mel Badheka, president & co-founder of Citroniq Chemicals, echoed these sentiments. He stated, “Our licensing agreement for four bio-polypropylene plants with Lummus Technology underlines our commitment to delivering sustainable plastics at a global scale.”
The partnership between Lummus and Citroniq, formed in April 2023, plans to develop four green polypropylene plants in North America. The agreements announced recently pertain to the first of these plants. They will utilise Lummus’ Verdene polypropylene technology suite, which includes ethanol to ethylene technology, dimer technology, olefins conversion technology, and polypropylene technology. Lummus stands out as the sole provider capable of offering all the essential, low-energy technologies to produce renewable green polypropylene from biogenic ethanol.
