The Excalibur technology is specifically designed for apparel and footwear. This technology involves fusing the fibres with Aegis' quaternary silane (an ingredient used in Excalibur), which attracts the negatively-charged cells of odour and stain causing microbes. As the cells are drawn towards the ingredient, it punctures the cell membrane of these microbes. The odour and stain causing microbes die as a result, keeping the clothes and footwear free of odour and stain.
This proprietary bonding process is the best suited for polyester fabrics and fibres, poly-blends, fibrefill, fleece, insulation, leather and synthetic leather. It is also compatible with high-performing water repellent systems.
Commenting on the technology, Brian Aylward, director of liquid formulations R&D at Microban said, “Excalibur answers today's growing demand from consumers for apparel and footwear that combines performance, style and durability. We engineered this technology for outdoor enthusiasts that want to be comfortable in their footwear, mid-layers and outerwear no matter what the climate.”
“As consumers do more outdoor activities for shorter durations, Excalibur fits with the 'done in a day' mentality, providing protection that endures frequent washing,” he said. (MCJ)
