The group has announced that it will invest about Rs 500 crore over the next five years.
The investment will include setting up a new plant at Sanand at a cost of Rs 150 crore. The facility is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs.
The group will initially start manufacturing sanitary napkins and will later set up facilities for baby diapers, adult diapers and other related products. Wonder Wings, the sanitary napkin, will be manufactured at Sanand facility which will have a production capacity of 12 lakh pads per day. The company has acquired 1 lakh sq metres of land in Sanand GIDC.
"We intend to invest and add more facilities in phased manner with an investment of Rs 500 crore, and plan to employ about 1,000 people. Our target is to make 800 million sanitary napkins annually," Sekhani Group Managing Director Prakash Sekhani said.
The company claims that out of 1.74 crore menstruating female population in Gujarat currently, only 26 lakh women (around 15 per cent) use sanitary napkins.
The Sekhani Group also plans to tie up with the government, NGOs and others to create awareness on hygiene amongst young girls and women by promoting the same in schools and colleges. (SH)
