The Office of the Textile Commissioner, in association with the Man-Made Textile Research Association (Mantra), is organising a one-day national seminar on ‘Product variants in technical textiles with special reference to small scale industrial sector’ on 27 February, 2015, at man-made textile hub of Surat.

The seminar aims to connect the missing dots and provide practical information on how to develop useable consumer products and market them, as converters and adequate marketing strategy are the two pillars upon which India’s technical textile industry can stand.

The seminar will include technical sessions on six topics: Government Initiatives in textiles and technical textiles, woven technical textiles products using coating and laminating techniques, coated and laminated speciality fabrics developed at Mantra, emerging opportunities for PP nonwovens in agro and other applications, lean management for productivity enhancement, and conversion business for technical textiles.

The workshop would provide an appropriate platform for both the technical textile manufacturers/technology providers and users industry to interact and exchange view points on the adoption of technical textiles, specific requirement and implementation process of manufacturing technical textile products, according to the organisers.

In the technical textile industry there are two segments—one is manufacturers of basic nonwovens and other is converters, i.e. those who make value added products like diapers, sanitary napkins, under pad, wipes, etc from nonwovens.

Nonwoven manufacturers, who are mostly in the medium and large sector, can generate several hundreds of converters. The converter sector will consist of small and medium scale enterprises that convert roll goods to useful value added products. (RKS)
