From a gross output of less than 20,000 tons in 1986 to 2.05 million tons in 2011, the nonwovens industry in China has made phenomenal advances and recorded remarkable achievements over the last 25 years.
From its first exhibition held at the Science and Technology Exchange Hall in Shanghai Textile Research Institute (STRI), progressing to the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Centers this year, it grew from 100 square metres of exhibition space with only 12 foreign exhibitors and 200 participants in 1986 to 25,000 square metres of exhibition space with over 400 local and foreign exhibitors at its last exhibition in 2011.
Today, the nonwovens industry in China has leaped to the global forefront and ranks first in the world in terms of output. However, China's nonwovens industry is still lagging very much behind developed countries in Europe, the United States and Japan in terms of technology levels, innovation capability and product development. Therefore, every year China still needs to import a lot of advanced nonwovens machinery and a variety of high-value nonwovens.
2012 is the second year of implementation of China's 12th Five-Year Plan. Under the state's macro policy to transform the economy and slow down economic growth, the challenge is to exploit the potential of the burgeoning nonwovens industry, which is made up of an unique combination of four major flexible materials -paper, textile, leather and plastic, while enhancing the quality and performance of development, especially in terms of energy saving and emissions reduction, environmental protection, as well as raising the general standard of living with an emphasis on people and livelihood.
Hence, for China's nonwovens industry this means that the demand for health-care, medical, wipes, interiors and functional materials for automobiles, geosynthetics, filter media, artificial leather, packaging materials etc. will be huge. This enormous market will attract more suppliers and buyers.
SINCE, one of the world's key exhibition for nonwovens industry offers an excellent communication platform and a vast window of opportunity for nonwovens industry professionals and related industries, from both domestic and foreign companies.
Not surprisingly, numerous local and foreign nonwovens companies have registered for SINCE 2013 exhibition, even before the end of SINCE in October 2011. At present, more than 65% of exhibition booths have already been reserved for the next edition of SINCE.
The Korea Nonwovens Association and the Taiwan Nonwovens Association will also be organising special pavilions for their association's members.
We will strive to raise the bar for SINCE 2013 to an even better international nonwovens exhibition, with our aim to promote sustainable and healthy development for the nonwovens industry in China.
