The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management (SVPITM) and the department of handlooms and textiles, Government of Tamil Nadu, are set to jointly conduct a series of workshops on the topic of medical textiles. The first phase, out of three, of the workshops will be held from April 5 to 8, 2018 at SVPITM, Coimbatore.
The first phase of the workshops would elaborate on the various fields in technical textiles, which include product development, manufacturing process, and marketing. The second and third phase comprises of planning and execution of business plan in the technical textiles sector.The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management (SVPITM) and the department of handlooms and textiles, Government of Tamil Nadu, are set to jointly conduct a series of workshops on the topic of medical textiles. The existing and budding textile entrepreneurs in and around Tamil Nadu are the target participants. In the sectorial programme, participants will undergo (both theoretical and practical) on their respective sector exposure including an industrial visit. The sectorial training programme includes sessions on medical textiles; products, manufacturing process, technology, machines, standards, market demand, and marketing strategy.
A field visit will be arranged for the participants to the manufacturing and application site to understand the practical aspects. Participants will also be provided with a questionnaire to conduct a survey at health care centres, medical textile product dealers, and end users. For the last day, sessions on new product development, brain storming session, SWOT analysis, discussion on intellectual property rights, and new business start-ups has been planned.
Sectorial programme II and III will be conducted in the same month on various sectors like agro textiles, home textiles, industrial textiles, and packing textiles. The resource persons will be from various manufacturing industries research associations, centre of excellences, higher learning institutions, etc.
Later, in phase-II and phase-III, the participants will be trained for preparing the business plan. Required assistance and support will be provided for evaluating their business plan in product development and commercialisation.
These technical textiles workshops will be a platform to provide technical support, knowhow and the entire necessary infrastructure at one place. It will provide an opportunity for the conventional textile entrepreneurs to extend their business in technical textiles field with the existing facility. The workshops will be a key for the budding entrepreneurs to start a business in technical textiles field. (GK)
