Thwing Albert's UTM measures compression of nonwovens

Thwing Albert, a leading manufacturer of advanced testing instrumentation has recently introduced the VantageNX universal testing machine (UTM) and MAP4 software for measuring compression and softness of nonwovens. The new VantageNX universal testing machine is paired with MAP4 software to evaluate the sample loft, thickness, compressibility and structural softness.

The Vantage tester compresses test plates to a user defined force value with no sample installed resulting in a curve that represents the deflection of the machine, load cell and fixture. This curve when is subtracted from the test curves removes all instrument deflection which could affect test results.

Compression and softness results of high loft nonwovens can be evaluated for materials including nonwovens, textiles, toweling, tissue and paper. The test measures the material from the compression phase all the way through the relaxation phase of the material. (NA)
