The event brought together research leaders and composites experts from China, Hong Kong, and Australia to share recent scientific advancements and strengthen partnerships.#
Among the topics explored were damage resistant composites for aircraft and aerospace applications, novel energy materials, self-healing innovations and bio-based resources for composite materials development such as silk fibres for innovative protective applications.
Professor Schubel said, “The symposium was a great example of the benefits of linking with local and international research networks and developing closer ties with industry partners. We were very proud to bring world-leading academics on composite materials to USQ and share their knowledge and promote collaboration. It was also an excellent opportunity for the University to showcase its composites research activities at CFM and launch its Centre of Excellence in Pultrusion Composites which will help develop new ways of using fibre composite materials for commercial and industrial uses.”
Keynote speakers at the event included Professor Yiu-Wing Mai, editor of the most prestige composite journal Composites Science and Technology; Professor Limin Zhou, editor-in-chief of composites communications; Professor Mingqiu Zhang, Asian editor of composites science and technology; Professor Xungai Wang, director of Deakin University’s Institute of Frontier Materials; Professor Peter Schubel, director of USQ’s Centre for Future Materials; and Professor Xiaozhi Hu from the University of Western Australia.
