Vegetable net from Lenzing cellulose fibers bags award

The project submitted by the Packaging Center Graz - “Vegetable Nets from Cellulose Fibers” made of 100% Lenzing Modal  Color – succeeded in convincing the jury and was given the award in the category fibre PLUS.

Berndt Köll (Global Innovation & Business Development Director – Textile fibers), Marina Crnoja-Cosic and Uli Renz (Textile Engineering) accepted the prize on behalf of Lenzing AG.

“fibre PLUS is already the second award which our nets have received. For us this is a clear signal of the growing environmental awareness in the packaging sector. At the same time, we consider this award to be a mandate to move ahead in this direction”, says Marina Crnoja-Cosic.

The innovative and completely biodegradable vegetable nets made of 100% Lenzing fibers are the results of a successful cooperation between fiber producer Lenzing AG, yarn manufacturer Borckenstein and the Packaging Center Graz, which produces the nets. Since the beginning of the year, these nets have already been used by the organic food supplier Ja! Natürlich (REWE), and are also now being used by the Zurück zum Ursprung product line (Hofer).

Lenzing Modal Color is produced from European beech wood and is thus 100% natural. More than one-third of the wood is derived from Austrian forests. Pulp and fiber production are carried out in line with the principle of sustainability. Lenzing manufactures the pulp it uses itself, and thus exerts control over the entire production process, which is considered to be a worldwide best practice. This is unique in the global fiber industry.
