Velocite Tech Co Ltd (Velocite), the makers of Velocite bicycles and components, and Oxeon AB (Oxeon), manufacturers of TeXtreme Spread Tow carbon fiber reinforcements enter into a research and development agreement to identify the optimal carbon fiber layup and resin system for fabrication of bicycle frames using TeXtreme based carbon fiber prepreg, and closed molding process.

“We are very excited to be working with Oxeon in discovering the best application of their advanced TeXtreme Spread Tow material for bicycle frame manufacture.” said Victor Major, the CEO of Velocite.

“Our company mission is to make the highest performance bicycle frames using valid engineering and manufacturing principles, and by employing the most appropriate materials and technologies. The aim of this research project is to allow us to maintain our frame stiffness and handling leadership well into the future.” Mr. Major continues.

The TeXtreme Spread Tow Fabric has several properties that make it suitable for high performance bicycle frame construction: it is very light, the fibers are aligned perfectly and the cloth is effectively two dimensional allowing optimal resin content of the resulting prepreg material, and strong inter layer bonding. Due to the unique properties and performance characteristics of TeXtreme it will be necessary to modify the existing layup patterns and application methods in order to derive the maximum performance benefits.

The research and development project will also involve formulation and application of novel resins using a high quality process in order to achieve the best mechanical properties and prepreg uniformity. This will be done in collaboration with a major industrial resin and adhesives manufacturer in Taiwan.

The results of this research and development project are expected by the end of 2012.

Launched in 2009, Velocite is a national entrepreneurship award, iF Design, and d&i award winning manufacturer dedicated to making high performance bicycles, bicycle frames, wheels and components.

Founded 2003 in Sweden, Oxeon has quickly established itself as the market leader in Spread Tow Reinforcements. Use of these spread tow carbon reinforcements increases the mechanical performance of composite material products and reduces the weight.
