The three-day event held in the city of Mumbai, welcomed more than 4,000 professionals in the field of technical textiles from countries around the world, including Austria, Turkey, Sweden, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Netherlands, the UK and the US, in addition to the national pavilions from Belgium, China, France and Germany.
The Techtextil 2013 fair, was organized by Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs, with the support of the Ministry of Textiles, the Coir Board of India, the Indian Technical Textile Association (ITTA) and the National Jute Board.
At the fair, Raj Manek, director of Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India, said the country’s textile industry is expected to grow at a rate of 20 percent annually to touch US$ 36 billion by 2016-17.
The technical textiles sector has grown at an annual rate of 11 percent during 2006-11 and is expected to expand even further, as the sector in the country is seen as the next hub for both manufacturing and consumption, he added.
The exhibitors at the event displayed various new products, services and technologies in the technical textiles and nonwovens sector.
A two-day symposium was also conducted at the fair, wherein industry leaders, scholars, government representatives and professionals exchanged ideas related to the industry.
