The programme inaugurated by textiles minister Smriti Zubin Irani witnessed the presence of General Bipin Rawat, the army chief and senior officials from the defence services, ministry of defence, ministry of textiles and technical textile industry.
The two-day event that concluded recently hosted various sessions. The second technical session titled 'Requirements of clothing and general stores for army' was chaired by Major General BV Rao. It talked about various topics including outsourcing of OFB products: scope for participation of trade, overview of special clothing & mountaineering equipment, technical textile requirements for defence forces, latest trends in footwear applicable for defence forces.
Four papers were presented in the third session presided by Major General Dalip Singh on 'Collective protection, teenage, load carrying fabrics and introduction of products into Canteen Services Directorate (CSD)'. The session focused on the requirements of collective protection & load carrying fabrics for the army, recommendation for collective protection & load carrying fabrics for use by defence forces, procedure for introduction products into the CSD and developments in tents, tarpaulin and canvas.
The fourth session on 'Medical textiles and protective clothing' was chaired by Brigadier SD Mulgund. Six papers were presented on various topics including requirements of medical textiles in the defence forces, recommended medical textiles for defence forces, latest developments in protective clothing, advance materials for protection solutions and protective textiles recommended for army.
Major General SPS Kohli chaired the last session on 'Geotextiles, building textiles and QA procedures'. During the session, various presentations were made on geotextile requirements of defence forces, buildtech requirements of defence forces and QA procedures.
The exhibition was a platform to create awareness on the requirements of the Indian defence sector of technical textiles, their innovation for product up-gradation. It also showcased the entire technical textile and footwear products developed by various manufacturers showing the possible improvements of the different products used by the Indian Army. (RR)
