SGMW was established 2002 as a joint venture between the two domestic manufactures SAIC Motor Corporation Limited and Liuzhou Wuling Motors Co Limited together with General Motors.
SGMW produced 1.6 million vehicles in 2013, which made them the second largest automotive manufacturer in China after Volkswagen. Autoliv currently supplies airbags, seatbelts, steering wheels, safety electronics and sensors to SGMW.
