The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft has established its inaugural project centre at the Opole University of Technology in Poland. The centre, Fraunhofer Project Centre for Advanced Lightweight Technologies (ALighT), is the result of partnership between the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU and the Opole University of Technology.

Autoneum is coming up with two new plants in addition to the eight existing ones in China. The ninth facility has opened in Pinghu (Zhejiang Province). Another plant in the northeastern city of Shenyang Tiexi (Liaoning Province) is already in the ramp-up phase. The plants will produce lightweight multifunctional components for noise and heat protection.

Teijin Limited, a technology-driven global group offering advanced solutions in the areas of environmental value, safety, security and disaster mitigation, has announced that it has agreed to acquire Inapal Plasticos SA, a leading automotive composite supplier in Portugal. The shares of Inapal will be purchased by Teijin Holdings Netherlands.

Lear, a global supplier of automotive seating and electrical systems, has set up a new manufacturing seating facility in Flint, Michigan. The facility will build seats for just-in-time delivery to the nearby General Motors Flint Assembly plant, and the General Motors Fort Wayne plant in Indiana. It will employ around 600 team members by the end of 2019.
