KICT develops new structural strengthening process

The Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology has developed a new structural strengthening process using a non-combustible carbon textile grid and cement mortar. It can double the load-bearing capacity of structurally deficient concrete structures, increase their lifespan threefold, and reduce construction costs by about 40 per cent.

Toray develops textile to prevent odour

Toray Industries has developed a new textile - Mushon 4X - that prevents odour. The company applied proprietary nanotechnology to combine several functional processing techniques and deliver odour prevention and elimination, antibacterial, and antioxidant performance. The textile will be commercialised in November 2020 for diverse applications.

Texwipe to open manufacturing unit in Mount Airy of US

Texwipe, a US-based manufacturer of contamination control supplies, will invest more than $4.5 million to locate a manufacturing facility in Mount Airy in in Surry County, generating 33 jobs, North Carolina governor Roy Cooper announced recently. The state’s department of commerce led a team of partners in supporting Texwipe’s expansion decision.

Herone has become part of a research project called InPro - which is part of the aviation research programme of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BmWi). In the project, complex composite hollow profiles based on high-performance thermoplastics, such as PEEK, PPS or PPA will be manufactured continuously for the first time.

The process combines innovations in materials science with robotic manufacturing, making advanced composites competitive for automotive and aviation markets. Lightweight composites are crucial for development of electric vehicles.

Albany International’s Q3 FY20 sales slip to $212 mn

Albany International Corp, a global advanced textiles and materials processing company, reported 21.8 per cent sales decline to $211.9 million in its third quarter (Q3) FY20 ended on September 30, 2020 compared to $271.1 million in same period last year. Net income attributable to the company for the quarter were $29.5 million (Q3 FY19: $40.0 million).

Softlab9 signs LOI to acquire Kosan Medical Company

Softlab9 Technologies has signed a letter of intent (LOI) for acquiring Kosan Medical Company. The company, in partnership with Kosan Medical, now will begin sales of personal protective gowns and coveralls in Canada. With the LOI, the Softlab9 gets 100 per cent exclusive rights to distribute isolation gowns, coveralls and other PPP in Canada.
