Japan’s Toray announces executive personnel changes

Toray Group, a Japanese integrated chemical industry group, has made an announcement that its chairman Akihiro Nikkaku will take charge as the new president and representative member of the board. At the same time, the current president Mitsuo Ohya will be appointed as the new executive vice president and representative member of the board.

Tommi Björnman has been appointed as the new president and CEO of Suominen, effective from April 1, 2023. Björnman holds a master's degree in industrial engineering and has previously worked as the president and CEO of Avgol Nonwovens. Finland-headquartered Suominen is a manufacturer of nonwovens for various applications, including wipes.

Finland’s Ahlstrom aims 38% reduction in Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2030

In 2022, Ahlstrom has committed to setting science-based emission reduction targets in line with net-zero. It plans to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 38 per cent by 2030 and achieve zero waste by 2030. In 2022, the company also invested in new boilers to reduce carbon footprint and achieved a record-high net sales and comparable EBITDA.

SharpCell launches premium napkins with Sweden’s OrganoClick’s binder

The Finnish airlaid nonwoven producer SharpCell is launching a plastic-free and fossil-free airlaid material for premium napkins at the Tissue World trade fair in Düsseldorf. ETH Zurich researchers develop textile sensor to detect exhaustion

Integrated into athletic leggings, the sensor uses a unique fibre structure to capture body movements precisely.
