KIST produces flame-retardant CFRP using tannic acid

Scientists at Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) have developed a flame-retardant carbon-fibre-reinforced composite material using plant-originated tannic acid. The team has also come out with a process for eco-friendly recycling of the material, which is widely used in aerospace, automotive, shipbuilding, and sports equipment industries.

Lanxess uses waste glass fibres in polyamide compounds

Specialty chemicals company Lanxess aims to increase use of recycled raw materials in producing its thermoplastic compounds and composites. It has introduced three new polyamide 6 compounds utilising recycled fibres manufactured from waste glass. Recycled fibres make up 30 per cent, 35 per cent and 60 per cent by weight of these new compounds.
