Garden Silk Mills Limited to invest 680 cr in polyfilm project

Garden Silk Mills Limited will set up a biaxially oriented polyester (BOPET) polyfilm project for the textile and packaging film manufacturing industry and further enhance the capacity of its continuous polymerisation (CP), partially oriented yarn (POYU) and full drawn yarn (FDY) with a total investment of Rs 680 crore.

Executive director Suhail Shah made this announcement recently on the occasion of company's millennium decade celebration in the city.

Shah said Garden is India's largest producer of polyester for film manufacture. From the BOPET project, a range of polyester chips will be produced for the textile and film manufacturing industry. The present 1,450 tonnes per day polyester chip production will increase by about 600 tonnes per day on the completion of the proposed expansion, he said.

Garden Silk Mills Limited chairman and managing director Praful Shah said, "From a small weaving factory set up in 1921, Garden is now Rs 3,000 crore vertically integrated company and a global leader in polyester chips, filament yarns and fabrics. The new project on polyfilm is likely to give a major boost to the company's future endeavours."
