“Growth in the technical textiles sector will come, only when government of India frames policies which will help the growth of the industry”, said Mr Arun Jariwala while speaking to technicaltextiles.net at the recently held manmade fibre textiles conference.
One example he gave was to make use of medical hospital disposable products like gloves, mask, gown, etc. mandatory, like in western countries. Mr Jariwala is a noted textile expert and also the Chairman of Surat Art Silk Cloth Manufacturers Association (SASCMA). “Growth in the technical textiles sector will come, only when government of India frames policies which will help the growth of the industry”, said Mr Arun Jariwala while speaking to #
“The concept of technical textiles was put up to the government by a committee which was advising on framing a textile policy way back in early 2000's and it mentioned that, it is the only segment which can prove to be a saviour for the Indian textile sector in the future.
“This was also put up in the presence of our Prime Minister – Dr Manmohan Singh by Mr Shankarsinh Waghela, the textile minister at that time at a seminar held by the ministry. However, little progress has been made in the last few years.
“The officials in the textile ministry need to be sensitized on the benefits that will accrue if there is growth in the technical textiles sector. They also need to be made aware of the concept of technical textiles, in order that proper policies may be framed”.
Giving more examples on policies, Mr Jariwala said, “Decorators use tent fabrics on an extensive scale. The government should make it mandatory for them to use inflammable fabrics to avoid fire hazards. In the same way, government should make single-use linen mandatory in hospitals. Plasma technology helps in producing single-use linen at a competitive cost”.
“Technical textiles fabrics are used in many day-to-day applications unknown to the common man, like in packaging, PVC leather, construction materials, etc. The government should come forward and draft policies which will boost this very promising sector”.
“Last but not the least, textile engineering colleges in the country should introduce a subject on nonwovens and technical textiles in order that students graduating from these colleges are well-versed with the concept, he winded up by saying.
