Welspun Living, part of the Welspun Group, a recognised frontrunner in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices, has announced a strategic partnership with Avgol Industries to advance sustainable solutions in the non-woven sector. Avgol is a global leader in high-performance spun-melt nonwoven fabrics and part of the Indorama Ventures Group. Indorama Ventures is an exclusive fibres and nonwoven partner of Polymateria, a British technology company that has excelled in developing biodegradable plastic alternatives.

Polymateria’s cutting-edge Biotransformation technology for polyolefins will play a critical role in the strategic sustainability efforts. Biotransformation technology delivers revolutionary new benefits to manufacturers of innovative composite materials, including wipe applications from Avgol. By breaking down into organic materials in the open environment, Avgol wipes with Biotransformation technology address end-of-life challenges in plastics waste management, the company said in a press release.

“Welspun is dedicated to leading the industry with our commitment to sustainability and customer excellence. By partnering with Avgol, we are setting a new standard in delivering innovative, environmentally conscious solutions that meet the evolving needs of global consumers,” Keyur Parekh, CEO global business, Welspun Living, said.

“This collaboration brings a unique technology to market that we’ve been developing for two years. We’re confident that our joint efforts will foster more innovative and sustainable product ideas. This initiative is part of Avgol’s broader strategy to diversify its product offerings in the wipes market,” Sivan Yedidsion, CEO of Avgol Industries, said.

“This partnership represents a significant leap in addressing end-of-life challenges for non-woven materials, demonstrating how cutting-edge science can provide real-world environmental solutions while creating more sustainable products. Our joint commitment and dedication over the last few years marks a dramatic step toward Polymateria’s goal of addressing, with our strategic partners, a 100 million tonne per annum waste challenge,” Richard Horne, Polymateria, India CEO and global CCO, said.
