Japanese firms to develop car using carbon fibre

Nissan, Honda and Toray will jointly develop a new type of car body with carbon fiber. Joint venture also includes Mitsubishi Rayon and East Foreign Textile Weaving. The goal is to go in for mass production by 2015 and make the body lighter by 40%.

The Japanese Government has also supported the plan. The plan entails an investment of US $18.5 million in the next five years, in the hope that in the global development trend of environmentally friendly vehicles, this tend will gain a leading position.

Wu Yugong which has a presence in the field of carbon fiber insulation material and has up to 50% market share in Japan, has announced a phased increase in capacities of insulation materials and equipment and related items by 2012 in China. The capacity will increase by three times.

Environment-friendly carbon fiber loop carbon fiber products are used for special areas and updates of their life cycle has strict requirements and a large number of waste treatments of carbon fiber products are urgently needed.

According to estimates of Mitsubishi Rayon, the current global CFRP is about 10,000 tons of waste and by end-2010 will reach 20,000 tons.
