Scientists at the North Carolina State University have found that film made of tiny carbon nanotubes (CNT) has a combination of thermal, electrical and physical properties because of which it may be used in next-generation smart fabrics. This film may turn out to be a key material in developing clothing that can heat or cool the wearer on demand.

PFNonwovens has appointed Cedric Ballay as the PFN group's new chief executive officer. The appointment is the result of a long-planned succession process at the helm of the Prague-headquartered group. Nanomaterials manufacturer Promethean Particles is now part of a consortium that is developing new safe and sustainable water repellent fabrics. The company is developing functionalised silica nanoparticles that can be incorporated into a water-based ink for digitally printing on to textiles. China has added polypropylene (PP), along with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), as a trading option on the Dalian Commodity Exchange in the country's northeastern province of Liaoning.
