ColorZen LLC announced the launch of a groundbreaking technology that will revolutionize the way cotton is dyed, eliminating water pollution and vastly reducing water and energy consumption.
During her remarks at the event Alexandra Cousteau said, “Clearly in a world where one third of the world's people don't have access to clean water, it is unthinkable to destroy trillions of gallons of water per year through traditional textile dyeing processes when alternatives exist.” She continued, “The only conclusion here is that the textile industry is in dire need of a solution to the global environmental crisis caused by the cotton dyeing process.”
“ColorZen technology represents the future of the cotton dyeing industry,” Harari said. “We will now be able to offer brands, retailers, and manufacturers a sustainable choice for cotton dyeing that will protect the fresh waterways and reduce energy consumption. With ColorZen cotton, less is more when it comes to preserving the environment.”
Describing the ColorZen process as a necessary technology to help stem global pollution, conservationist Alexandra Cousteau said, “As the world's water crisis escalates, so will the consumer's demand for sustainable products that will reduce the strain on the world's water and energy resources.” According to experts on the topic, traditional textile dyeing dumps over 600 billion gallons of toxic wastewater into the rivers and waterways in China each year.
ColorZen technology reduces water consumption by 90% and can dye the same amount of cotton in less than 1/3 the amount of time, Harari said. The environmentally friendly process eliminates the use of toxic chemicals normally flushed back into fresh waterways and rivers, and achieves zero toxic discharge, something governments in countries like China and India have been seeking for decades.
Crucial to the market receptivity of this technology is that ColorZen cotton is compatible with any existing equipment used for dyeing, so manufacturers and dye houses will not need to make new capital investments or change dyestuffs.
Sustainable, scalable and cost-effective, ColorZen technology creates a strong natural affinity between the dye and the cotton fiber, eliminating the need for harsh chemicals.
Oeko-Tex Standard 100, a widely-accepted global certification for textiles, issued its seal of approval to ColorZen LLC, stating that its technology is 100% free of harmful substances and safe for use on products for babies through adults. All cotton treated with the ColorZen process meets the human-ecological requirements of the standard presently established for baby articles.
ColorZen LLC is making its technology available to retailers and brands for the upcoming spring and summer lines. In addition to the upgraded environment profile, the process improves color fastness and produces brighter colors, as well as creates novelty heather colors that were up to now impossible.
