PolyOne Corporation, a premier provider of specialised polymer materials, services, and solutions, has launched its Hammerhead Marine Composite Panels at the Composites and Advanced Materials (CAMX) expo, from December 12 to 14, 2017, in Florida. CAMX is a must-attend event for products, solutions, networking, and advanced industry thinking.
With a weight savings of more than 50 per cent versus plywood, these continuous-fibre reinforced thermoplastic composite panels offer boat manufacturers a lighter, more efficient alternative to traditional marine construction materials.PolyOne Corporation, a premier provider of specialised polymer materials, services, and solutions, has launched its Hammerhead Marine Composite Panels at the Composites and Advanced Materials (CAMX) expo, from December 12 to 14, 2017, in Florida. Beyond weight reduction, Hammerhead panels can accelerate installation and labour productivity because they replace the typical wood, hand lay-up, and vacuum-assisted process with a consolidated, ready-to-install panel. Applications ranging from structural to cosmetic in areas such as bulkheads, decking, and cabinetry can benefit from the increased design flexibility these new panels generate.
The Hammerhead panels represent the latest technology introduced by PolyOne Advanced Composites. Launched in 2016 with the acquisitions of Gordon Composites and Polystrand, the company’s advanced composites portfolio offers both thermoplastic and thermoset composite solutions with exceptional strength-to-weight ratios. With high strength, stiffness and dimensional stability, these specialty materials are ideal for the most demanding applications that span multiple end markets, including outdoor sports, aerospace, transportation, security, and prosthetics.
Craig Nikrant, president, specialty engineered materials, PolyOne Corporation said, “We are investing heavily in composite innovation, and these recent marine applications highlight how customers benefit from the next generation of metal, glass and wood replacement. With our new Polystrand thermoplastic composite technology and design expertise, PolyOne’s innovation pipeline continues to expand. We estimate composite revenue growth of more than 50 per cent in five years as a result of projects currently in our innovation pipeline.”
Robert M. Patterson, chairman, president and CEO, PolyOne Corporation said, “Our investments in R&D and resulting composite portfolio have differentiated PolyOne as an industry leader. It’s just one of many new technology areas that contributes to our global vitality index, which remains world class and above our goal of 35 per cent.” (GK)
