Export prices of medical dressing items from China rise marginally

The average price of absorbent cotton, gauze and bandages exported from China grew by 3.37 percent year-on-year during the first quarter of current year, according to customs statistics.
During the initial three months of 2012, China exported US$ 196 million worth of absorbent cotton, gauze and bandages, which constituted 39.46 percent of overall medical dressings exports from China.
The volume of absorbent cotton, gauze and bandages export from China shot up by 7.75 percent year-on-year during the period under review.
There was a huge rise in demand for the three medical dressing items from emerging markets of Africa, ASEAN, Middle East and Latin America during the January-March 2012 period.
However, there was a decline in demand from traditional export markets of Europe and North America, and Chinese exports of absorbent cotton, gauze and bandages to these markets posted negative growth during the three-month period.
