SAERTEX Selected To Support Bombardier Aerospace Aircraft Programmes

January 13, 2011 - Germany

The SAERTEX group has gained the business of another aviation leader by entering into agreements with Bombardier Aerospace. SAERTEX will supply high-performance multi-axial and uni-directional reinforcements, also known as non-crimp fabrics (NCFs), which will be used by Bombardier in the production of major primary structures for its new CSeries and Learjet 85 aircraft. The volume of orders during the next ten years could exceed 250 million Euros.

SAERTEX non-crimp fabrics provide significant design and manufacturing benefits, enabling low-cost manufacture of large complex structures. This is one of the prime reasons why SAERTEX materials are being increasingly used in primary aircraft components, as they are able to meet the challenging design and cost targets required within new aerospace programmes.

Bruno Lammers, Chairman of the SAERTEX group, is pleased to have been selected by another key player in the aerospace industry: "The agreements with Bombardier are really something special for SAERTEX, and we are proud that our commitment to providing high-quality, technical products has been rewarded by Bombardier. SAERTEX is glad to have been able to offer its innovative materials and manufacturing solutions to Bombardier for their new aircraft, and we are excited to be involved in such major programmes."

The SAERTEX Group is a global market leader in the development and production of non-crimp fabrics made from glass, carbon, aramid and specialty fibres for use in composite manufacture. With plants in Germany, France, Portugal, South Africa, USA, India and China, the SAERTEX Group is well placed to meet the rising worldwide demand for high-tech reinforcement fabrics in all market sectors.

As the only modern aircraft specifically designed for the 100- to 149-seat market segment, the CSeries airliner will fill a critical need for modern aircraft with an unmatched environmental scorecard. The Learjet 85 is Bombardier’s first jet to feature a composite structure and wing.
