Plasan to launch faster autoclave technology process

December 17, 2012 - Germany

Vermont-based carbon fibre parts specialist Plasan Carbon Composites, Inc. is developing a new rapid-curing moulding process titled Pressure Press, the company’s chief technology officer Gary Lownsdale, has said.

The new carbon process would be much faster than the conventional auto parts making autoclave technology processes, said Lownsdale while addressing the second conference on Plastics in Lightweight Vehicles 2012, held recently in Cologne, Germany, Plastics News reported.

Further explaining the features of the new carbon process, he said that the autoclave moulding technique would have a cycle of only 17 minutes as compared to current process’s 90-minute cycle and this faster speed would enable the technology to get carbon-fibre-reinforced plastics into mainstream cars.

Plasan has entered into a long-term development project with the Washington-based compression moulding machine maker Globe Machine Company to manufacture the new process.

Founded in 2006, Plasan makes carbon-fibre-reinforced hoods, roofs and trunk lids for Chrysler’s Dodge Viper.
