New mosquito net plant comes up with investment of $30mn

Uganda, with an aim to cut back on the sum that it needs to spend on importing the mosquito nets in order to combat malaria, has recently launched a mosquito net manufacturing plant in the Namanve Industrial Park. Plasnet Limited, the Tanzania-based firm has set up this plant.
The facility to come up with an investment of $30 million that is around Shs70 billion is amongst the maiden industries in the country and would support an annual production of 2.4 million bed nets, as it goes operational in July, 2011, while generating job opportunities for around 1,000 persons.
The company intends to increase its production to 4.2 million nets over the next five years and also to raise the number of jobs to 5,000 by 2015.
Further, the firm also intends to venture in the business of textile production, which would improve the value propositions of the cotton grown in Uganda over a built up area of 70,000 square metres.
President Yoweri Museveni, while opening the plant, gave an assurance to the Plasnet Industries about the availability of buyers for mosquito nets in Uganda.
