Buhler first to produce yarn from Micro Modal Edelweiss

Micro Modal Edelweiss is produced in Austria at Lenzing AG from European beech wood and consists of 100 % renewable, natural raw material. Beech wood is not grown on forestry plantations, beech wood forests occur frequently in Northern and Central Europe where they have shaped the landscape of these regions for centuries. The stock of beech wood is obtained as a result of “rejuvenation”. High crop in spite of low demand for land, refrain from using agro-chemicals and irrigation, characterize this botanical raw material.
Lenzing is worldwide the unique company with a pulp and fiber production concentrated in one plant. The fully integrated process management enables attaining the highest recovery rates of 95 %. The production process is very environment-friendly; instead of discarding as a waste, by-products are recovered.
Acetic acid is extracted for the production of food stuffs or xylose for sweetening agent production. Another secondary product is sodium sulphate which is used when making glass. The fiber production at Lenzing is carbon-neutral; the remaining share of the wood is used in factory-own thermal plants for energy generation.
Bühler is the first spinning mill to manufacture the new Micro Modal Edelweiss fiber to fine, precious yarns. Compared to the previous fiber, there are no differences in the processing and the fabric appearance. The properties of Lenzing Micro Modal, produced using the Edelweiss-technology, remain the same; Micro Modal Edelweiss is soft and skin-friendly the way nature intended.
Micro Modal Edelweiss is the perfect partner for blends with cotton; such a blend is characterized by its high sheen, intense colors and softness. Both fibers have the same dyeing behavior and tone-on-tone dyeing is possible. Blending the Edelweiss fiber with Swiss Cotton Organic helps to protect the environment across the board.
