Imerys presents sustainable innovations for nonwovens
April 18, 2011 - Switzerland
Imerys was present for the first time at the world’s leading nonwovens exhibition, INDEX 11, which took place in Geneva from 12-15 April. Visitors were able to discover more about Imerys’ innovative solutions for the nonwovens industry with a strong emphasis on sustainability.
One area in which there was particular interest is the recent introduction of Imerys’ FiberLink™ product.
Imerys developed the FiberLink™ family of engineered calcium carbonate specifically to allow customers to replace a percentage of polymer resins in the manufacture of fibers and nonwovens. Not only does this impart favorable properties such as softness, opacity and normally cost reduction – FiberLink™ has a much lower carbon footprint than polymers used in fiber and nonwoven production. There was also considerable interest in Imerys’ FilmLink™ range of ultrafine calcium carbonates for the breathable film market. Although the primary attribute imparted to the film with FilmLink™ is breathability, it was recognized that the replacement of polyolefin resins with FilmLink™ reduced the carbon footprint of the film.
