PROTECH Adds New Ballistic Package
August 01, 2011 - United States Of America
Safariland™, a BAE Systems line of business, announced today that it has released another armor model that satisfies the requirements of the National Institute of Justice’s (NIJ) new Voluntary Body Armor Compliance Testing Program under NIJ Standard-0101.06 (NIJ-06).
Designed to fit all PROTECH® side-opening style carriers, the MR01 Type IIIA features the advanced hybrid technology of both Twaron® Micro-laminate and Honeywell® Gold Shield® ballistic materials and utilizes advanced stitching for enhanced performance.
The MR01 Type IIIA satisfies the requirements of the NIJ Voluntary Body Armor Compliance Testing Program under NIJ-06. It has been tested against .357 SIG FMJ FN 125 gr. and .44 Mag JSP 240 gr. The package has also been independently tested at an NIJ-approved laboratory against the following special threat rounds: Speer .357 SIG 125 Gr. GDHP, Win. 9mm 127 Gr. +P+ SXT, Win. .40 S&W 165 Gr. SXT, Tokarev 7.62x25mm 85 Gr. FMJ, Fed. 9mm 100 Gr. Frangible as well as 2, 4, 16 and 64 Gr. RCC Fragmentation.
The MR01 Type IIIA enhances the PROTECH product line, which includes the previously released side-opening SM01 Type IIIA and BR01 Type IIIA as well as the front-opening Z-BR01 Type IIIA package. The addition of the MR01 provides tactical officers an economical option while not compromising performance. PROTECH Tactical currently offers the FAV™ MKII Enhanced Family of Carriers, including the FAV LV Enhanced and FAV LP Enhanced, as well as the Titan Assault Enhanced™ tactical vest and accessories with the MR01 package. Part numbers are currently being set up for the FAV™ T1/T2, Rapid Response™, TRIMAX™ and TAC 6 Plus® HP.
“The MR01 allows us to expand the PROTECH line of vests to make it affordable to outfit the styles and preferences of tactical officers everywhere,” says Dan McNeil, Director, Category Management, Tactical Armor. “Leveraging similar ballistic technologies used in our concealable line-up, the MR01 is an economical design that provides tactical teams with the performance they desire.”
The NIJ introduced the Ballistic Resistance of Body Armor NIJ Standard-0101.06 to establish minimum performance requirements and test methods for the ballistic resistance of personal body armor. The standard provides improved performance of body armor so that officers receive adequate protection against those threats likely faced over the next decade. According to the new NIJ-06 standard, body armor must now be able to defend against increased velocities of ammunition calibers to better reflect current street threats and law enforcement duty weapons. These new performance requirements are critical components to improving the life-protecting equipment being used by law enforcement today.
The MR01 side-opening style vest is offered in a wide range of multiple sizes. In addition to the MR01, Safariland offers a comprehensive list of other NIJ-06 concealable and tactical products, which are available and posted to the NIJ Compliant Products List (CPL) at http://www.justnet.org/pages/BallisticCPL.aspx
