TenCate Geosynthetics introduces Debris Shield technology

August 10, 2011 - United States Of America

TenCate Geosynthetics Americas has developed a patent pending innovation that provides extra impact resistance to TenCate Geotube® containers that help protect shorelines, rebuild beaches and reclaim land from bodies of water.

Chris Timpson, assistant market manager at TenCate Geosynthetics Americas in Commerce (Georgia), USA explains: ‘TenCate Geotube® containers could be subject to damage from water carried debris, vandalism, boat propellers and a number of other situations. If the integrity of the geocontainer is compromised or damaged, the geocontainer may lose its ability to provide erosion protection due to reduction in height from sand loss. Our latest patent pending innovation is our Debris Shield technology, which provides an extra impact resistance for TenCate Geotube® containers’.

The Debris Shield of TenCate Geosynthetics is a specially engineered composite geotextile providing impact resistance by dissipating energy from an impact force from water-carried debris. This new technology provides additional protection against vandalism, UV radiation and abrasion. The Debris Shield will protect TenCate Geotube® containers and thereby extend their useful service life.

Debris Shields for TenCate Geotube® containers can be designed to provide partial protection or total protection. The Debris Shield takes the shape of the geocontainer and blends into the marine environment. This technology can be adapted to various applications; sand dune cores, jetties, dikes, groynes and river applications.
