H&V Announces R&D Grant Award

September 23, 2011 - United States Of America

We are pleased to announce that H&V has been awarded a $750,000 grant from the Virginia Tobacco Commission to be used for research and development in several filtration markets. The Tobacco Commission seeks to promote economic revitalization of tobacco dependent regions by providing grant funding to entities in Virginia engaged in applied research with significant commercialization potential.

Virginia created the Tobacco Indemnification & Community Revitalization Commission in 1999 to help revitalize the economies of tobacco-dependent areas. The county of Floyd is within the tobacco growing region and so is eligible to sponsor grants. H&V submitted the R&D grant proposal through the Floyd County Economic Development Authority. The grant proposal process included review and approval by multiple state agencies including the Tobacco Commission R&D Committee, Virginia Economic Development Partnership, and Full Tobacco Commission.

The H&V grant received the highest score of the eight proposals vetted by the R&D committee and passed the full commission vote by unanimous decision.
